We spent the previous night mapping out where we wanted to go. Since Reta has been here before she is putting our itinerary together. Like any big city, parking is always a premium and by that I mean you will have to pay about $15 to park. There is a bus stop right outside of the campground we are staying in, which is only 8 miles from downtown San Antonio. As we were headed to the bus stop we noticed this trailer burned down in our campground!
Later we discovered that the lady had a scented candle burning while she folding laundry. She didn't notice that the blouse she was folding had caught on fire and started to smolder when she put it away. Later she smelled smoke and when she discovered said blouse it was too late. She lost the blouse and her home. Scary how quickly these home on wheels can go up.
We jumped on the bus and paid our $1 for a 10 minute bus ride. I always enjoy taking public transportation, of course to save the planet, but to sit back and watch the people. You can see all kinds. I didn't realize that San Antonio has so many Mexicans. I was by far the tallest one on the bus and that was when I was still sitting!
Our first stop was "Tower of the America's". It had these beautiful water fountains around the tower.

It made for nice picture opportunities. Too bad the sun was deciding weather it would show itself today.
Since we are in Texas you have this image of what Texas is all about. Cowboy hats, big buckles, flat land filled with cattle and of course bull riding. We decided that we would give Bull Riding a shot since we are here. Being the gentleman that I am, I let Reta go first!

We did pretty good for a couple of City Slickers. This little bull was pretty feisty but we were able to hold on for the full 8 seconds.
The view from above was pretty cool. Its amazing to see how much they have built up around these historic buildings. The Alamo is surrounded by huge buildings on all sides. There is a revolving restaurant up high and very informative signs that point out important landmarks. We decided to head down and take a closer look at things. The Tower was a good start to get the lay of the land. We first headed off the the famous Riverwalk. This river was formed to bring water into the missions and their fields. Today it is lined with restaurants, bars, hotels and shops. There are water taxi's and tour boats that run up and down the river. On our walk we encountered one of San Antonio's finest. As we passed him I asked if it was OK for Reta to take a picture with him. I caught them both by surprise. I just wanted to show you that not all things are big in Texas.
We had many places planned to visit today but we found ourselves strolling Riverwalk more than we expected. The other places will have to wait for another day because for now this is the place to be.
I put together a slide show of our trip around San Antonio. In it you will see the snake that I caught and how it got the better of me. Also, when you see the pictures of the Alamo you will see how built up everything is around it. It's incredible to walk around that place and imagine what happened years ago. The bloodshed, the loss of life was incredible.
Finally you will see some pictures that we took looking into some funny mirrors. Hey, we're all still kids sometimes, more than others sometimes.
