Day of Discovery

Normally if I were to walk out and see the Pick Up truck covered in bird crap it wouldn't upset me too bad. Sure, its an annoyance but water will clean it up. But not today! You see, today is the day we are going to drive into Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive. It's also the day that I am going to be discovered by someone and become famous. You've heard those stories of people becoming famous that way? I wanted everything to look just right. I shaved and took an extra minute in front of the mirror to make sure everything was just right. Then I see the Pick Up.
Oh well, it will have to be. Call it "character" for now because I don't have time to wash it off. It's time to be DISCOVERED!
Our drive into town took us through the neighborhood of Beverly Hills. You know you were close to famous people because all along the way there were people selling the maps for the "Stars Homes". Huge homes line the street. There were tall walls that hide the homes from people passing by but once in awhile you see a mansion through the gates or walls.
We finally arrived in Hollywood and found a parking spot, which is just as difficult to spot than a famous person. We met up with a friend that I used to work with, Willie. We were both in sales back east and he decided to move out to LA and give it a shot.

We strolled along Hollywood Blvd, where all the big Theaters are. Here is the Kodak Theatre where, as you know, the finals of "American Idol" are held each year. We went in but they don't let you into the theater itself. Very nice, very rich.

We continued down along the sidewalk and you are looking down to see which star you are walking on. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is along this street and you are continuously shouting out the famous people on the stars. That and dodging the hundreds of people that are all out here to be discovered as well. What do they think? We arrived at Grauman's Chinese Theater where all the famous people sign their name in wet concrete. The area is a lot smaller than I had imagined but filled with people all getting down to compare their hands to someone famous.

We said goodbye to my friend Willie and got away from the madness of Hollywood. We headed out to La Brea Tar Pits. The interesting thing here is that this pit filled with bubbling tar and water sits in the middle of the city. Minutes from Hollywood Blvd. Once you get close to this pit it smells like someone is taring their roof. That strong tar smell just lingers in the air. These pits occasionally produce large bones from animals that have fallen in years and years ago. The bubbles push these bones to the surface and reveal the dinosaurs that once got trapped by these sticky shores.

The next stop took us to the famous Rodeo Drive. This is where the Pick Up and its current condition really didn't work for us. We got out and strolled along the street looking into the windows of merchandise too expensive to even think about buying. If you have to ask "How much" than you shouldn't buy it. You had your Cartier, Dolce & Gabana, Versace, Rolex, Jimmy Choo...you get the idea. On the street were Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, Benz's, Limo's of every size rolling slowly by.

Well, after our stroll I insisted on taking my Bird Crapped Pick Up truck down this famous Avenue. My luck, as I turned down Rodeo Drive a Lamborghini pulled out from a space in front of me and proceeded down Rodeo Drive ahead of me. What a site. People stopping in their tracks to take pictures of this beautiful car...and there we were, right smack behind him. I tried to stay close so that my truck would get into the pictures people were taking. There it is. My discovery. Ok, maybe for the wrong reason but none the less. As people gawked at this beautiful high performance car they would also point to this beautiful 1999 Ford Ranger Pick Up truck with the beautiful bird pattern on the hood. I was never so proud.
